Central venous catheter insertion (central line, CVC or CVP line)

central venous catheter is a long, thin, flexible tube used to give medicines, fluids, nutrients, or blood products over a longer period of time, usually several days up to a few weeks. A catheter is inserted either in the neck or under the clavicle and less frequently in the groin, usually under ultrasound guidance. The catheter often has 3-5 different channels for different drugs. It can be used for drugs and fluids during an operation or for drugs and nutrition after a larger operation, and also for Dialysis.
